Q&A with Pastor Kurt

Pastor Kurt Bush is the campus pastor at the Trinity Hospers campus. Kurt, his wife Amber, and their kids Cooper (4th grade) and Ella (1st grade) moved to Hospers shortly after Thanksgiving 2019 to partner in ministry at the Trinity Hospers campus. We’re grateful for the opportunity to do life and ministry with them!

What’s your favorite way to spend a weekend?

I love to spend time at baseball fields!  Whether coaching or watching, I love the game and love spending time at a baseball field with family and others that also enjoy the game!

What is your enneagram number?

I’m a 9 with an 8 wing!  I value harmony and unity, and often find myself trying to build and foster healthy relationships not just for myself and others, but between others as well.

What is something important that a mentor has taught you?

My first mentor in ministry was a church planter, and he had a very intentional practice on Sunday mornings of making as many contacts/connections with people before the service as possible.  He’d use people’s names as much as possible, and ask for it if he didn’t know it.  He taught me the importance of names and the importance of being seen, even if only seen briefly.  Years later, this continues to stick with me and influence how I engage people every single day!

What is one thing you like to do when you have free time?

I LOVE to ride my bike!  If I get free time, I try to get a little dirt or gravel on my mountain bike tires!

What do you love most about the Trinity staff?

There’s a lot to love about the staff!  There’s a really great unity around the mission, to be a part of God’s redemptive work in the community.  But I also really appreciate the collective sense of humor.  It’s really great to serve with people that smile and laugh together!

Share a personal experience of an answered prayer.

As I was beginning seminary, Amber and I were discerning whether or not God was calling me to give up my job at the time to focus on studies and ministry, I felt pretty confident that God was calling me to do that.  In the stress and anxiety of that, I prayed a very specific prayer asking for affirmation, and God provided it in a big way!  That’s a longer story for a longer blog, but it quite literally changed our lives!

What is your favorite worship song/hymn?

I really LOVE the song “Glorious Day” by Passion/Krisitan Stanfill.  If you come to Hospers at the right time, you might catch me belting it out in my office.

What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

I won’t turn down any flavor ice cream, but I LOVE cookies and cream, specifically from Whitey’s ice cream, a local Quad Cities brand.  If you don’t know Whitey’s, look them up…they ship ice cream to your house, and it’s worth it!
