100 Years of Trinity: Missions

This summer Trinity is celebrating 100 years! That’s 100 years of stories, experiences, individuals, and God’s faithfulness in the life and ministry of Trinity. Leading up to our July 14 celebration, check the bulletin or the blog for stories from Trinity’s history. You might just learn something you didn’t already know.

Did you know that one of Trinity’s core values is missional engagement?

Trinity has a long history of being deeply committed to God’s mission – locally, regionally, and globally. Whether that’s giving generously to our many mission partners, traveling frequently to key areas like Haiti and Uganda, or investing in the needs of our communities and region, our heart is to connect everyone at Trinity with God’s work in the world through mission.

Trinity’s commitment to missions has been evident from the beginning as there have been numerous times in the annual budget where benevolence spending (missions) was almost the same as the general fund, and on many occasions, it was more. As Trinity grew in the early 90s and space and staffing needs increased, that proportional giving was no longer feasible, but Trinity has remained one of the top missional support congregations in the RCA.

Trinity has sent groups to Kentucky, Montana, and Mexico, among many other places over the years. The youth group has traveled to Tennessee and Mexico – and in recent years, New Mexico, Mississippi, and Colorado.

Trinity’s commitment to missionaries is long-term. There are at least two cases of second-generation support: Garold and Jean Van Engen, then daughter Betty and son Chuck. Also, Keith and Marcine De Jong and now son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Tamar De Jong.

Ultimately, we affirm that every person is a missionary, sent to live a missional life in all the places where we live, work, and play. Whether that is locally, regionally, or globally – we are all invited to join God in mission in the world.
