Monday’s Here!

Making Much of Jesus in our Work
How will you make Jesus more than your work today?  I am beginning my work week reflecting on Ben’s message yesterday and thinking about the ways I am tempted to either make work an idol or give up in the meaninglessness of the toil.

Pastors are not immune from the same challenges as anyone else.  I am just as likely, maybe more likely, to make an idol of work.  And pastors, especially on Monday, contemplate the futility of their work.  Despite what you might assume, Pastors must also guard against making too little of Jesus and not enough of the cross.   So, I will pray for you this week – to see your work as magnifying to Jesus.  And I ask for your prayers for those of us who work in the building of the church – that we would truly make Jesus glorious in and through our action.

Worshipfully working with you for the King,

Jon

Church on Fire

If Emil Brunner is right – “The church exists for mission as a fire exists for burning” – then our church is on fire!  Here are some folks to pray for as they follow Christ in mission:

  • cary 214 people are on mission in Cary, Mississippi this week.  Pray for fruit from their labors, but more importantly, that God’s fruit would be born in their own experience of serving and ministry with one another in Christ’s name.
  • Over 50 people will be headed to Colorado next Sunday.  We’ll send off our high school students and sponsors for an incredible 10 days of mission, worship, and growth.  They’ll spend time in mission with an RCA congregation in Colorado Springs, enjoy some Colorado fun, and then join  over 2,000 other teens for Rocky Mountain High in Estes Park.
  • breannaBreanna Mars has returned home from her Summer of Service and will be in OC for a few weeks before heading out for study abroad in Spain.
  • And everyone of us are on mission everyday for Jesus.  The only question is, What kind of mission are you on?

Sunday School Memory Verses

This summer, each week the K-5 kids can memorize a new verse that goes along with our Summer Sunday School Curriculum.  They can stop by church between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. this week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays to recite the verse to Kristin for a prize.   This weeks verse is…

  •  Colossians 3:13 (NIRV)

Put up with each other. Forgive the things you are holding against one another. Forgive, just as the Lord forgave you.

(Now that sounds like a great verse for family vacation in the car….)
