Sunday’s Coming ~ July 13

Something old and something new….
A couple times every NFL season, teams wear jerseys from an earlier era in their history.  My beloved Green Bay Packers forego what I think of as traditional green and gold.  In its place is navy blue and brown garb with “ACME” on the front.  Yes, they really were called the ACME Packers at that point in time.

The players are different and the style of play foreign to the men who wore those original jerseys, but the goal is still the same – get the ball across the goal line and “Go, Pack, Go!”

IMG_1534When we come to worship on Sunday, we’re going back a few decades and singing songs that will be familiar to many, but new to others.  In our summer worship series, the music each week has been a theme from a different decade or genre. We’ve done bluegrass, 90s praise (Shout to the Lord), 80s praise (Shine, Jesus, Shine), and last week we incorporated Spanish.

This week we’re singing all songs from our former building’s green hymnal.  The words will be on the screen, but we’ll also have a number of hymnbooks available for those who want to sing parts.  Rebecca Bogaard and Cam Riibe will play organ and piano.  Paul Aykens will help to lead the singing.

And it will also be a new day.  With his newly minted M.Div. degree, Youth Director Ben Vos will preach our next message in the work and worship series from Ecclesiastes 2.

There maybe many things the church attenders of the 50s and 60s wouldn’t recognize in today’s church, but one the thing they would see is that goal is still the same – praise the name of Jesus.

See you Sunday,

Pastor Jon

Last Sunday we kicked off the Clothe-A-Child for School Drive.  This is a drive to help provide new clothes for the 2014/2015 school year for nine Elementary students within our school district.  Please look for the sign-up table in the Fellowship Hall this Sunday where you can pick up a card with a clothing request on it.  You simply purchase the item, and return the item, the card, and a gift receipt back to church before July 20th.  Volunteers with Love INC will be delivering the clothes before the first day of class.

Membership Class Opportunity

Next Sunday, July 20, Trinity will be offering a one-session class entitled “Discovering Trinity” for people to learn about the church and provide the place for people to join the church.  Materials and food need to be made so please contact the church office this week, or talk to Pastor Bob on Sunday, if you would like to attend the class.
