Fireworks Fun and the Kingdom of God
Where did you see the fireworks last night?
Our usual spot is Sioux Center Fairgrounds. As expected, the 20 minute show dazzled me and was a fitting end to a wonderful evening celebrating our nation’s birthday.
But two other things caught my attention:
First, looking east over the fairgrounds from the All Seasons Center, the backdrop to the human made pyrotechnics was God’s lightening show on the eastern horizon. Wow. God’s show provided an amazing canvas on which the fireworks company painted celebration.
Second, looking around me I saw a gathered mish-mash of a crowd. Sioux Center, Orange City, and environs; RCA and CRC and probably others, too; married, single, old, and young; anglo, hispanic, some born citizen, some new citizens, and some in process. We might not interact much during the course of the year, but for the 20-minute show, the waiting before, and the walking to our cars after, we were glad that we were together and that we live in the country do.
On Sunday, we’ll mark another celebration of another kingdom – God’s eternal Kingdom in Jesus Christ. The “fireworks” will be our joyous interaction in song, in creed, in Word. The backdrop will be the canvas of communion and Jesus’ bringing his children together around his table. See the next section for details of our day.
Let’s draw something beautiful on God’s canvas as we interact as joint heirs of Christ, and “fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God” (Ephesians 2:19).
For the King!
Jon
Sunday’s Coming
We are hosting a combined service with our friends from Amistad Cristiana on Sunday, July 6, from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Afterwards, please join us from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. for continued fellowship with the folks of Amistad. We will grill hotdogs and enjoy a light meal together, and there will be games and activities for adults and kids. Bring along a blanket or lawn chair for the food and games located on the grass on the east side of the church.
Invite your Spanish-speaking friends and neighbors! There are Spanish flyers available at the church office. Please pick up a few and hand-deliver them to your Latino neighbors with a personal invitation to Sunday’s service and time of food and fellowship. Or click HERE to print a copy.
Cloth-A-Child for School Drive
We will be kicking off our Clothe-A-Child for School drive this Sunday. This is a drive to help provide new clothes for the 2014/2015 school year for nine Elementary students within our school district. Please look for the sign-up table in the Fellowship Hall where you can pick up a card with a clothing request on it. You simply purchase the item, and return the item, the card, and a gift receipt back to church before July 20th. Volunteers with Love INC will be delivering the clothes before the first day of class.
Don’t forget to get your family signed up for an appointment for your photo sitting for the new photo directory! We will not have laptops and assistance available this Sunday, but they will be available again the following Sunday.
