Thousands of years ago, Isaiah described the coming Messiah as a great light for the people walking in darkness. That light–that star–would be Jesus, the Son of God. We are in the third week of a season called “advent.” The word “advent” comes from the Latin word adventus, meaning “coming,” which is a translation of the Greek word parousia. For the first Christians, advent was all about preparing for Jesus to come again – the true second Christmas.
Holiday Service Times
On Sunday December 20, 27, and Jan 3 there will be no Sunday School and only two services at 8:30 & 9:50 a.m. On December 24th we will be having a 4:00 p.m. & 5:30 p.m. Christmas Eve Candlelight Service. There will be nursery available for 0-2 year olds.
Senior Fellowship Christmas Dinner
All seniors 65 and older are invited to the Senior Fellowship Christmas Dinner at noon on Thursday, December 17th. There will be a catered meal from Nederlander’s Grill of bacon wrapped pork chop, green bean casserole, strawberry fluff salad, and dessert which will be served by the staff. On Sunday the kids learned about Mary, who was visited by the angel Gabriel. He told her good news: She would give birth to a baby. This child would be King, and His Kingdom would last forever. That’s definitely a reason to be JOYFUL!
