Sunday’s Coming ~ November 20, 2016

Worship this week brings us to another person who easily could have said, “I’m in over my head.”  God asked 80-year old Moses to confront Pharaoh, King of Egypt, and the most powerful man in the world.  Moses knew from the get-go that this was way beyond who he was.  After all, for 40 years he had been tending sheep.  How could a farmer free the Israelites from 400 years of slavery?

And yet, God did it through the likes of Moses.

Sunday’s Coming ~ November 13, 21016

Worship this week brings us to two people who were in over their head.  A simple, ordinary man from an unheard of small town God calls to confront the most powerful king in the region.  A woman – well, not just a woman, but a widow – and, not just a widow, but a single mom who is at the end of her rope and ready to give up, ready to even die.  At that very moment, she is asked to give up one more thing.  What must be going through her head?  What would be going through yours?

This week we look at what it means to be in over our heads through the life of Gideon. Not only was he overwhelmed by his day-to-day tasks, but this guy was absolutely in over his head when God asked him to lead 300 men against the entire army of Midian.  Each day Gideon kept losing more control of his life, but it was only under God’s control when Gideon was able to truly live.

For my final budget letter to you, I tell a story from the past to (hopefully) propel a confident faith in expanding the vision and mission of Trinity. Come with me to the last month of the last century. We circle-up with our elders and deacons in the newly opened Family Room of what we call “The 1999 Building Addition” …

Sunday’s Coming ~ October 28, 2016

Do you feel overwhelmed?  Like your life is more than you can handle?  Like you don’t know how to keep all the plates spinning?  Do you feel called to something greater than yourself?  Or asked to step out in faith?

The life of faith is lived beyond ourselves.  Our weakness only emphasizes God’s strength.  And when we’re truly following Christ we can find ourselves…In over our head.

Sunday’s Coming ~ October 23, 2016

This week’s message helps answer the question, “How will you live on November 9?”  Why that day?  It’s the first day after the United States election for President.  The ads will end, the pre-vote rhetoric will be over, and somebody will win.  And, according to polls, over half the country will be mad, no matter who wins.  Neither leading candidate …

This week’s “trustworthy saying” fuels our hope in God in times of suffering, sorrow, and setbacks.  Have you ever wondered if following Jesus is worth it?  Where in your life are you overwhelmed with wondering if you can make it through?  This week’s saying may just be used by God give you courage, hope, and peace.

This week the kids looked at the prophecies concerning Jesus’ birth are numerous, and many of them refer to Jesus’ lineage. In Bible times, Jews took great care to accurately record family genealogies. Matthew and Luke both chronicle the genealogy of Jesus. Jesus came to earth as a baby in Bethlehem. Jesus had earthly parents, Mary and Joseph, but His true …

A person we know as the Apostle Paul wrote two young men living in the city of Ephesus to hold on to what is true.  In his letters to Timothy and Titus he encourages them several times saying, “The saying is trustworthy…”

He uses that phrase five times to precede a bedrock truth he wants Timothy and Titus to hold fast.  We’re looking at one each week.

This week’s “trustworthy saying” includes”…we have set our hope on the living God…”

This week the kids looked at the prophet Malachi. Malachi spoke to God’s people approximately 100 years after the end of the Babylonian captivity. Four hundred years of silence followed Malachi’s prophecy. Malachi was a messenger—a prophet—who told God’s people to repent. Malachi also told about another messenger God would send. This messenger, John the Baptist, would break the silence. …
