We live in a world that is constantly “connected”. We have endless information at our fingertips. We have constant contact with email, texting, and social media. But even with all of the Facebook friends or Instagram likes we have, how many of us feel lonely, isolated, and disconnected? Certainly COVID has amplified the disconnect we experience as plans have changed and we have had to alter our everyday lives. Most of us would probably admit that the true, deep connection we desire cannot be fulfilled through social media, but what if our digital habits have actually become a barrier to these longings for connection? What if in order to have the connection we desire with God, others, and God’s work in the world, we need to first disconnect from something else?
As we launch our August series “disConnect” this Sunday, we invite you to take the next 21 days to disconnect from something (or several things) that may be hindering your relationship with God and others. This might be social media, entertainment content (Netflix, Hulu, tv), news consumption, etc. Trinity will also take a break from posting on social media, though you will still be able to find a live stream of our services on Facebook. Our hope is that by disconnecting in these ways, we can create space to deeply connect with what matters most: our relationship with God and others.
