100 Years of Trinity: Hospitality

This summer Trinity is celebrating 100 years! That’s 100 years of stories, experiences, individuals, and God’s faithfulness in the life and ministry of Trinity. Leading up to our July 14 celebration, check the bulletin or the blog for stories from Trinity’s history. You might just learn something you didn’t already know.

Did you know that one of Trinity’s core values is hospitality?

Our mission is to connect people with God, others, and God’s work in the world. At Trinity, intentional hospitality plays a key role in our desire to connect people with others.

On Sundays, whether it’s from a greeter, usher, coffee server, or someone else in the building, we hope every visitor receives a warm and genuine greeting and knows that Trinity is a place where they are welcome, and a place where they can belong.

A key aspect of hospitality at Trinity includes the coffee ministry. This Sunday morning coffee fellowship began in 1971 in the basement of the old building. Over the years it moved to the narthex, then to the north lawn in the summers, and even to the south side of the building during construction. Today the coffee ministry continues to be an opportunity for hospitality and fellowship.

There have been several other activities and events over the years that have encouraged fellowship and connection within Trinity. This includes youth sponsored soup & spaghetti suppers, Advent meals and activity evenings, Suppers for 8, Heartland Strategy game nights, and Easter breakfasts. More recently we have added Wednesday night meals during the school year.

We know how hard it can be to feel like you belong, especially in a new place. That’s why we value hospitality and are intentional about making guests feel at home. It’s our hope that these moments of hospitality lead to lifelong connections and relationships for everyone who walks through our doors.

It’s this connection and participation that we hope will lead to meaningful relationships with both God and others.
