One of the great things about going through a logo update is that it helps you look at your values and think about how you want to be perceived. Trinity is a church that has one hundred years of legacy and values that we bring with us into today, so even though style and design preferences change, our desire is to represent who Trinity is and has always been with a 2018 look.
Overall Look
In updating our logo, we wanted something more modern, that would move away from some of the dated things of our old logo. The use of primary colors, gradients, and a not overly readable font were replaced with a cleaner more legible look. We wanted to represent the Trinity while also tying into our three fold mission: connecting with God, others, and the world. One of the unique features of our triangle logo is how it points forward. This represents for us Trinity’s long history of being willing to try something new in order to be obedient to God’s calling. It is not that we are so progressive or forward thinking, but rather a belief that God is always in front of us, calling us to take the next step in following Him, which so often leads us away from where we were.
Name
Some people have wondered if we have changed our name. The answer is no; we are still Trinity Reformed Church. That’s how we are listed in the phone book or on any official documentation. Some have even asked if we have left the RCA. Again, the answer is no. Reformed is our middle name, and we continue to have a deep and meaningful connection to our denomination and the many RCA missions opportunities that we support. Like many “middle names,” we have come to have been known simply as Trinity, or Trinity Church. We have also seen a growing number of people become a part of our church that are not from Reformed backgrounds. We have those who come from Evangelical Free, Lutheran, Christian & Missionary Alliance, Catholic, Non Denominational, Baptist, and many more denominations as well as a growing number of people who did not go to church growing up. For them, the term “Reformed” is confusing as they tend to lump Christian Reformed, United Reformed, Netherlands Reformed, and Presbyterian Reformed all into the same category, making it harder to know who Trinity is. Because of this, we wanted a version of our logo that stated specifically that we were a part of the Reformed Church in America to help clarify between all the other “Reformed” denominations. In short, we are still Trinity Reformed Church, though we usually go by just Trinity or Trinity Church. We hold tight to our Reformed theology and connection to our denomination while we celebrate the growing denominational diversity in our congregation.
