Sunday Recap – September 16

We are currently in the middle of a fall sermon series titled, “THRIVE: Being the Church Where We Live, Work, and Play.” Missed the service? You can view a recording HERE.

Over the course of this sermon series, we’ll post Thrive Practices with each Sunday Recap. Our desire is that the message you hear on Sunday morning would serve as a launching pad. We don’t want you to forget the sermon after walking out of our doors. Our hope is to see transformation – that as a body we would take what we hear God saying and begin to live it. As you reflect on Pastor Brian’s message, ask yourself: what specific actions can I take to live into what I’m hearing?

Thrive Practices: Week 2

  • Read Psalm 1 and John 15:1-11 every day this week (consider even memorizing it).  Ask Jesus to show you how to abide in him today.
  • Do a daily prayer walk through your neighborhood/dorm/college campus/workplace, taking time to stop and pray in front of each house and for people as the Spirit prompts you.
  • Introduce yourself to any neighbors you haven’t met.  You may want to jot down their names and details they share so you don’t forget.  Take over cookies or a plant or produce from your garden.
  • Invite one of your neighbors/dorm-mates/co-workers over for dinner or dessert.  There is something special that happens when you eat together!
  • Move towards a neighbor/co-worker/classmate who is difficult for you.  Do something nice for them.  Ask God to help you see them as “a gift.”
  • Celebrate National Good Neighbor Day on September 28.  Do something kind for your neighbors!
  • Throw a block party.  Invite other neighbors to help you plan it.  If you rent a bounce house or a snow cone machine, you’ll be the most popular person in the neighborhood!

As you engage in these practices, we want to hear from you. If you have a story to share, email us at trinityoc@gmail.com or post a story to our Facebook page. We want to share in the work that God is doing in your life and the lives of those around you.

We are also excited to offer visual sermon notes each week, courtesy of Elizabeth Heeg. Each Sunday, you can view her work in person outside of the sanctuary.
