Sunday’s Coming ~ June 21, 2015

SUNDAY’S COMING
Hi-Fi Bulletin Cover lo-res

This Sunday we meet Zephaniah.  What a cool name!  It means, “Hidden Treasure of God.”  Literally, we think he was hidden as a child to avoid persecution by the wicked king Manasseh of Judah.  But God used him for an incredible message to the people of Judah, who themselves felt shame from their sin and heard the taunts of others like a school-yard bully.

His message must have given them hope as they heard of God’s delight in his people. Last week, the message of Amos showed us we cannot escape God’s gaze over our current, sinful condition.  This week, the message of Zephaniah shows us God’s delight over us because God’s gaze also falls on our future condition.

And what a glorious future it is!  Zephaniah makes the staggering promise that if we will seek the Lord, he will hide us (like he did Zephaniah), he will turn our shame to praise, and he will himself sing songs over us!

What shame do you feel today that you long for God to turn to praise?  Let’s seek him together.

See you Sunday,

~ Pastor Jon
