Sunday’s Coming ~ November 30, 2014

SUNDAY’S COMING
What Are You Waiting For VertWhat are you waiting for?

November 30 to December 24 is called the season of “Advent” in the tradition of churches through the centuries.  In advent, we join with the people who lived before Jesus was born.  We join them in hoping and preparing and longing for the coming of the promised child who would become King of kings and Lord of lords.

We’re not waiting for Jesus to be born, but we are waiting for him to come again, to bring the complete reordering of all things according to God’s eternal purposes.  Along the way, we tap into our own waitings for Jesus to make all things right.  So, what are you waiting for?  A child to return home and to Christ?  A disease to be healed?  A sin to be forgiven? A relationship to be made right? An injustice to be righted?  A peace to end a war?

What are you waiting for?

On Sunday we will begin our Advent series talking about hope. This time of year we make the shift from Thanksgiving to Christmas. We start to hope for and wait for lots of things: family gatherings, time off of work, Christmas music on the radio, maybe even snow. In this very short season of waiting and hoping, it is all too easy to wait and hope for the wrong things; to get caught up in the tide of this season and to forget that to hope is to believe that something bigger and something greater is about to break forth. To be sure, we are in a season of hope! And this hope is not something to give to Christmas music, or holiday lights, or even vacation days and family gatherings. This hope must be directed toward that which is greater and more lasting. True hope is directed toward Christ and His work for us on the cross. Join us today as we engage the true hope we see in Isaiah 64.

And Sunday night we get to end the waiting for one meal for 30,000 people as we package food for Then Just Feed One.  Join us anytime from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

Our Sunday Morning services start at 8:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

“THEN JUST FEED ONE” FOOD PACKAGING EVENT

Then Just Feed One 2014If we cannot feed the entire world why not begin simply with a bag of food for an individual or family?  This Sunday night, from 5:30-7:30pm our fellowship hall will be turned into stations where Trinity folks will package between 20,000-30,000 meals for people in need in Honduras.  This event is a lot of fun, as people of all ages (children 7 years old to people in their 80’s have done this in recent years) work together for this cause.  Come for an hour shift or stay the entire night.

THANK YOU FOR THE SECOND EVER TURKEY TROT!

Nearly 120 registered for the trot this year.  And, though not everyone decided to run, the cold could not freeze out the enthusiasm!  Thanks to the registered participants and others, $1500 was raised for ministry at The Bridge.
