SUNDAY’S COMING
In the Sermon on the Mount (the series we just completed) Jesus said radical things such as “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” (Mt. 7:21) Earlier in Matthew he said, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” (Mt.5:17)
How do we know what the will of God is? How does his will link to the Law, or the 10 Commandments, that we see in the Old Testament?
For the next two weeks we will be looking at a short sermon series entitled “First Things First.” During our time together we will look at the foundations of the commandments God gave to us as his people and look at them in light of Jesus and his message.
This week we will focus our time on Exodus 20:1-2. Here there is no command given to us, instead, we hear God speak his words to his people as they are gathered at Mt. Sinai. The very same God speaks to us as we gather together as his church. May we be blessed, encouraged and challenged as we see the backdrop of the 10 commandments and how God speaking and revealing himself to us is the pathway for real freedom and life.
Our Sunday Morning services start at 8:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
Children and Youth Sunday School will meet between services, 10:00-10:50 a.m.
Children and Worship Children ages 5 through 1st grade will be dismissed during the service and can be picked up after church in the Kid’s Area.
Our Adult Sunday School Opportunities this week are:
- Questions of Life (Fellowship Hall)
- Come out for an opportunity to explore important and challenging questions we have in life. This week Eric Anderson will facilitate the topic of: “What does radical giving look for the church?” We will look at areas such as whether the tithe is biblical or not, what obstacles get in the way of giving, and much much more.
- Fabric of Faithfulness Study (Adult Rooms 3&4)
- A book study for college students to help learn how to connect what they believe about the world and how they live in the world. Facilitated by John Fernstrum.

UCI CHRISTMAS PROJECT
This year for our Christmas project we are collecting Christmas presents for Haitian children through the UCI Ministry. This is similar to Operation Christmas child, except we will be filling a one gallon sized plastic bag with gift items. We are asking you to fill the bag with items for the child along with $4.00 to help cover shipping. There will be a sign-up table in the Fellowship Hall again this Sunday if you’d like to pick up a profile and packet. If you signed up for child last week or the week before, please stop by the sign-up table to pick your packets up as well. If you want to just give a monetary donation to cover shipping, you can put it an envelope labeled “Haiti Shipping” and give it to Kristin Brouwer. We will be collecting the bags through the month of October, and they can be placed on the collection table by the office.
