Advent Songs

Advent Resources

Advent is the name given to the four weeks leading up to Christmas. The word “Advent” literally means “coming” or “arrival,” and it is the season of the church year when we get ready for the coming or arrival of the one true King, the Savior of the world! Amid all the busyness and commercialization of the holiday season, Advent invites us into an intentional time and space of slowing, waiting, longing, and spiritual growth.

In conjunction with our sermon series we’re calling “Advent Songs” (we are looking at songs of hope in the Bible that point us to Christ), we want to invite you to engage in at least one of three growth opportunities:

Jesse Tree Devotional

Children and families are invited to prepare for the coming of Christ through daily devotionals using our Jesse Tree Advent cards. Each day of December, the cards will walk you and your family through a part of God’s big story by listening to a podcast, asking questions, and designing an ornament. If you or your family would like to engage this daily devotional, pick up a pack of Jesse Tree cards on the tables where we keep our bulletins or click this link. You can also access the podcast by clicking here

Carols of Christmas Devotional

One of the best parts of Advent and Christmas is getting to sing our favorite Christmas carols. Do you know the story behind some of these carols? How closely do you pay attention to the familiar lyrics and what they mean? Join us on Sunday mornings (Nov 27 through Dec 18)  as we read and discuss the book The Carols of Christmas: Daily Advent Devotionals on Classic Christmas Carols by Alan Vermilye. Even if you don’t join the class, consider using this book as a personal devotional. Books are available at the Welcome Center for $10. Sign up here to join the class.
