Sunday’s Coming ~ October 26

SUNDAY’S COMING
First Things First

Last week we started a 2-week series called “First Things First.” This series is all about God’s love for us, His desire to be in relationship with us, and His plan to rescue us from spiritual bondage even before we do anything to deserve this kind of love or attention. We called it “First Things First” because that’s what our faith is based on: God’s loves for us. We have to understand that He loves us unconditionally; that He loves us first. When we remember that, we can start to make sense of scripture, of faith, of life, of everything.

Pastor Bob started us last week in chapter 20 of the book of Exodus. That’s where we’ll be again Sunday when Youth Director Ben Vos preaches, and we will look at God’s ownership of His people. We will look at how God sent Moses back to Egypt, delivered the Israelites from physical slavery, provided for 1 million+ people in the desert, and brought them to this mountain where He gave them the 10 Commandments. We have this whole back story leading up to where we find ourselves in the text this week, and the back story reminds us that we are already in with God. Nothing that we can do will put us in better standing with Him. The rules came after God made a relationship with people.

These rules are evidence that God loves us. Just as Jesus is our proof that the God of the universe loves us enough to shed the blood of His own Son, these 10 rules were proof to the Israelites that the LORD was their God. So as we open scripture Sunday, let’s keep first things first: the rules are a confirmation of a relationship that God desires to have with us. When we remember that, we’ll begin to live in true freedom.

Our Sunday Morning services start at 8:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
