Just Walk Across the Room
Sometimes, the simplest act is leveraged by God for an incredible future. Someone asked me this weekend, how a guy with German name became pastor in a Dutch church. I said, “Because a manned named Willis walked across the yard.” About a century ago, my tavern-owning, beer-brawling grandpa George bought a homestead on the banks of the Onion River in the heart of the Dutch ghetto of eastern Wisconsin.
By all accounts they were a bit rough, and certainly weren’t much for church. Willis lived on the next farm over. And Willis walked across the fence line, invited George and Hilda and their brood to church one Sunday, and the rest is history. Today, I’m a pastor to Willis’ grandchildren and great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren (basically, anyone with Simmelink for a name).
In our town, all kinds of people are moving in. August is move-in season. Chances are, you and I have a new neighbor or two or three. Let’s walk across the yard, make a friend, and invite to worship.
